1. What is the Walking Logbook Journal all about?

I went online to find a walking logbook and check out what was available. And quite frankly, I found them lacking. They had the basic form to fill out, such as distance, time, and location. But I can make that myself in a word document.

I created a logbook that offered much more information on walking, health, fitness, wellness, Mindset, inspiration, happiness, and motivation.

The back story to this is I'm a high school teacher, and I've been trying to convince my class that each of them can write a 20-page book on how to solve someone's problem, such as Time Management for Teens and How to Care for High-End Sneakers, as examples.

More and more, I find that teaching is a "sales job." If you present a lesson with enthusiasm and show them how they can benefit from it, then they are willing to put in a greater effort.

I shared my book writing process with them and, in the end, showed them what someone can do if they set their minds to it.

Each Weekly Insight is for my reader to think about while on their walks. There is space for my readers to write their thoughts, a space to write in their "words of wisdom," whether it's words to motivate them or quotes from other thought leaders.

The book opens with 'What's your why" and asks you to answer these four questions:

  1. What happens if I don't walk

  2. What gives me "pep in my step"?

  3. What are my strengths?

  4. What fires up my passion?

If you know why you want to do something, it's halfway done.

In week 2, I give you three powerful health tips that will immediately improve your health.

Then I continue, week by week, to give you insights to help you on your walking and life journey.

2. Why Log and Journal Your Walking Experience?

One of the best and least expensive wellness tools is a journal. Journaling helps you recognize and spotlight invaluable insights in your life.

Studies show that journaling is a powerful way to boost our mental health, reduce depression and anxiety, and make us happier and more content with our lives.

How did you decide on what content to include?

I felt it was essential to start the book with a section on how to use the book and how to get the most out of your walking time.

Then comes the 52 weekly insights on one side of the page with space to write in your thoughts and ideas.

Then on the opposite-facing page is the weekly log.

Eight chapters include:

  1. Why Log and Journal Your Walking Experience?

  2. How to Start a Walking Program – Develop a Routine

  3. How to do a 10-minute walking time test

  4. Safety Tips

  5. Benefits of Walking

  6. Things to Do While Walking

  7. Develop Your Walking Creativity Routine

  8. Why You Should Track These Vital Signs Throughout the Year with a Vital Sign Tracking Chart

I wanted to touch on the physical and emotional benefits a reader may be looking to find in a walking book. The book will appeal to both the seasoned walker and the person just starting.

3. Why do you use the word Journey when talking about walking?

A journey is an act of traveling from one place to another. When you walk, you start in one place and move to another.

But in the bigger picture, I use the word journey because walking helped me emotionally and physically move from a place of pain and darkness to my new place of excellent health and a bright outlook on my life and future.

The physical act of walking and the time it gives you to get into your most profound thoughts is a journey, and if you use your walking time wisely, it's greater than any journey you can buy.

4. Tell me about the 10-minute time test.

By doing the 10-minute time test to track your walking speed, you will be more aware of hidden health problems if you suddenly start to slow down your pace.

If you feel well yet have slowed down, there may be an underlying health issue.

The quicker you resolve the issue, the less time-consuming and less expensive the treatment.

5. Why did you include a chapter on "Why You Should Track These Vital Signs Throughout the Year."

You should monitor your vital signs for the same reason you should track your walking speed. I provide a chart for you to fill in your vital signs; heart rate, weight, breathing rate, temperature, and blood pressure. These are the same vitals your healthcare provider checks during a yearly checkup.

If your numbers are changing, especially if the change is dramatic, the quicker you seek medical treatment, the quicker you will get better, and it will cost you much less than if you waited. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

7. Why offer so much free content?

I've included so much free content because walking will improve your health, fitness, Mindset, and, ultimately, longevity. The more information I get into the hands, eyes, and ears of my readers, the better off they will be.

8. What other books have you written on the subject of walking?

The Walking Logbook Journal is my fourth book on the subject of walking.

  • My first book: Walking for Health and Fitness, gives an excellent overview of how to use walking to get in shape and stay in shape.

  • My second book: Fitness Walking and Bodyweight Exercises, shows you that by performing bodyweight fitness exercises while out on your walks, you can supercharge your fitness and get into great physical shape.

  • My third book: Walking Inspiration is a 12-month plan to inspire your health and fitness with 365 inspirational quotes and monthly health, fitness, and wellness plan to implement.

9. Why is reading or listening to motivational quotes so crucial to our Mindset?

Great quotes show you're not alone: Inspirational quotes remind us that our thoughts are a common experience felt throughout the ages.

In the Walking Logbook Journal, I have a place for my reader to write in their go-to quotes. These can and should be looked at daily as you review your walking miles and read the weekly insight.

My current inspiring quote is by Brain Tracy and reads, "Never consider the possibility of failure; as long as you persist, you will be successful."

I would say this to my audience, persist with walking as often as you can, and you will succeed in creating better health and wellness in your life.

10. I'm intrigued by the words Idea Catcher on the first page. What's does it mean?

The phrase Idea Catcher came to me during the writing of the book. I was out on a walk and was looking at my notes app for something I dictated into it on a previous walk.

As I searched for my idea, I took a good look at the number of notes that contained my random thoughts and ideas. There were so many!

When I walk, I seem to catch these ideas as they float around into my consciousness.

We know what a dream catcher does; I thought it would be great to associate walking and this book with the phrase "idea catcher." If you've seen my notes app, you'll know why.

11. Why offer a FREE AUDIOBOOK of your Walking Inspiration book?

Offering the free audiobook is a way to combine walking & Mindset. Reading is great, we all know that, but sometimes you just need to get up and move, or better yet, walk.

The audiobook version of Walking Inspiration is for convenience and to motivate my audience. I listen to some type of audio every time I walk. I've listened to dozens of audiobooks every year. I wouldn't have the time to sit and read these books.

Audiobooks and walking are the ultimate Win-Win. I've absorbed so much information and entertainment while staying in shape.

Also, walking and learning go hand in hand. Studies have shown that exercise increases the size of the hippocampus, which is involved in forming new memories and associated with learning and emotion. The brain literally grows each time you walk.

Keep in mind the Walking Inspiration audiobook is only available through the Walking Logbook Journal Resource Page.

12. One of the Weekly Insights is about the Transformational Process. How does that take place while walking?

In the chapter "Develop Your Walking Creativity Routine," I write about the transformation one goes through when one makes walking a significant part of their physical fitness routine.

The first transformation will be physical as you begin to feel good! Walking and exercise go hand-in-hand.

It will begin slowly at first, then rather quickly; your body will start to "feel good!" You will feel your body getting into physical condition. You won't be sore; you'll feel like your muscles have been used. Trust me; you'll want this feeling to continue. Soon, you will find that you are getting stronger, and your average walking speed has increased as you become fitter.

As you'll learn in the book, walking speed is an indicator of overall health and vitality.

The second transformation will be your Mindset. You'll be calmer, and your creativity and problem-solving skills will kick into overdrive. You'll begin to think more clearly.

I've had breakthrough ideas while out on walks that would have never occurred to me when I was sitting at my desk. As I write in the book, I use my iPhone notes app to record my ideas. When I return to my desk, I just have to open my notes and act upon the breakthrough ideas. This process alone has been a godsend in how much I've been able to accomplish.

Steve Jobs, Charles Dickens, Beethoven, and many other creative types, relied on walking to enhance their imaginations. Jobs' walking meetings became part of his workday.

If it worked for Steve Jobs with great success, why wouldn't it work for all of us?
